Report generator and security report configuration
Petra lets you control what goes into security reports and who sees them. You can configure things like which accounts or incidents are highlighted, which are excluded from reports, and how high-value or sensitive accounts are treated. This article explains the report generator and security report configuration from a user's perspective.
What the report generator is
The report generator (or report configuration area) is where you shape the content of the security reports that Petra produces—both one-off reports and automated ones. You can often choose date ranges, which tenants to include, and what types of data to include (e.g., incidents, failed attacks, risk detections). Some organizations use it to produce a custom report for a specific customer or time period, or to generate a report on demand in addition to the scheduled automated reports.
Security report configuration options
Configuration often includes: High-value accounts—Accounts that are especially important (e.g., executives, finance) can be flagged so they're called out or prioritized in reports. Blacklisted accounts or incidents—You can exclude certain accounts or incidents from reports (e.g., test accounts or known false positives) so they don't clutter or confuse the reader. Risk detection and other filters—You may be able to include or exclude certain types of events (e.g., only critical incidents, or only certain tags). The goal is to make the report relevant to the audience—whether that's an MSP customer, internal management, or a compliance reviewer.
Why configuration matters
Different audiences need different reports. A technical team might want every incident; a customer might want a summary with sensitive details omitted. By configuring high-value accounts, blacklists, and filters, you ensure that the reports you generate and send are appropriate and useful. Check your reporting or settings area for "Report generator," "Security report configuration," or similar to see what options are available for your organization.
